A LOOK BACK AT TEMPO VERSUS SCOTTY

Fans stood booing at the top of their lungs, voicing their discontent with how things unfolded in the main event of “Running Free” – the first Heavy Metal Wrestling showcase. In a match that pitted Scotty Santiago against Terrale Tempo, the first main event of Heavy Metal history was one that had to potential to be an all-time great. Yet, here we were, moments after the final bell had rang and fans who had eagerly anticipated a showdown between two of Texas’ best and brightest booed as loud as they could. They felt robbed. We all did. What went wrong?

First, let’s take a look at how we got to this point. Months before Heavy Metal Wrestling’s debut on March 30th, 2017 – Terrale Tempo had been hand selected to be in the main event. His opponent, however, had not been named yet. Many within the organization felt that Terrale was the “pony to bet on” so-to-speak. Armed with an impressive move set, a great mind, talent that is out of this world and a fan-base that’s as rabid as the day is long, Tempo was everything that you could ask for in an athlete. Terrale was a graduate of the Texas Wrestling Academy, a school that had produced champion caliber athletes for over a decade. For years, Tempo traveled the United States, leaving quite the impression everywhere he went. Needless to say, it seemed like Tempo had been groomed to set the standard in Heavy Metal Wrestling and professional wrestling in general. To many within the organization, it seemed like a no-brainer that Tempo would be included in the first main event.

And that did not sit well with one man in particular. Enter Scotty Santiago, a man who by all accounts, is the human personification of scum. Known throughout the state of Texas as a man who truly cares about nothing, Santiago did not take kindly to Tempo being placed in the main event. In fact, Santiago went as far as implying that Terrale was receiving preferential treatment. Days before the show, Scotty vowed to defeat Terrale and "knock him down a peg". Needless to say, the bad blood between the two was boiling well ahead of schedule.

With fans who had waited for months in anticipation rooting him on, Terrale Tempo stood on the top rope, waiting for his perfect opportunity to seize victory. As Tempo leapt from the top rope, known scumbag Scotty Santiago, who was looking for any possible way out, pulled senior referee Alex Marrozos into harm’s way. Luckily, Tempo had the wherewithal to stop his momentum mid-flight, avoiding striking the referee by mistake. With the referee shaken and turned around, Scotty Santiago saw opportunity and did not hesitate.

A swift kick to the groin and three seconds later, Scotty Santiago was named the winner of the contest. Scotty reached deep into his bag of tricks and somehow was able to pull out a victory, much to the chagrin of the Heavy Metal fans. As Scotty sat on the ground, satisfied with the monumental victory he had achieved, he laughed and flashed a lewd hand gesture at those who jeered him. With Tempo writhing in pain, Scotty was able to walk away with his hand raised, albeit by underhanded means.

The following months featured Terrale Tempo practically begging Heavy Metal Wrestling management for another shot at Santiago. Like so many of our faithful fans, Tempo felt that he was screwed over on March 30th and that he should be given the opportunity to rectify things. Santiago, however, felt differently. To this day, Scotty claims that his victory over his now arch-rival was a clean and honorable one - when in reality, anyone with a lick of sense would be able to tell that Santiago is lying through his teeth. Since then, we've seen Scotty avoid Terrale at all costs. He's denied any requests for a rematch and has ever started an "Open Challenge .. to any athlete not named Terrale Tempo." And although their paths have crossed a few times, Tempo has yet to get his hands on Scotty.

One has to wonder if Terrale will finally be able to avenge his loss in 2018. One thing is for sure, the rivalry between these two is far from finished.
